The Fox Inn – Pub sign restoration

This was a good job in one of my favourite villages doing a pub sign restoration. The signs were taken down and one had a small repair to the frame. I took tracings of the lettering as the owners wanted them exactly the same, just refreshed. I then removed flaking paint, sanded them down and filled various areas and then smoothed. They were given coats of undercoat and gloss topcoat. I traced the lettering back on and gilded it all with 23.5ct gold leaf, then the red drop shadow applied. It took around two weeks then the signs were re-fitted and I freshers up the swing sign bracket with metal paint. The pub was closed during the lockdown so it was the perfect time for them to be done, it was great for me as I could get on with the work in my shop. I’m looking forward to popping in there soon for a drink in the beer garden, it’s a really nice old pub.
