Masonry signwriting – Southbourne Grove Hotel
The Southbourne Grove Hotel is a local hotel / B and B that have recently changed owners and have been closed for some time for a major refurbishment. It’s gone from a typical seaside B and B to something a bit special, the rooms have been filled with crazy, rare and vintage furniture, it’s all been painted, new floors, new everything. I was asked by the new owners to design some lettering to be painted on the exterior masonry, above the front windows on the right and left of the front wall. I played around quite a bit on the computer getting the lettering to sit correctly, made scale patterns and started painting. I used masonry paint throughout, finishing it with some gold lettering enamel. Masonry signwriting isn’t seen much anymore and there aren’t any signs like it in the area. It attracts a lot of attention and the hotel owners are very pleased. I’m also currently working on a painted fan light to go in the hallway of the building.
