An a-board for David at The Naughty Corner Tearoom, which has just opened at Ashley Cross.
I also painted their (bright orange) shopfront and fascia sign.
Hand painted A-board for Bournemouth Bombshells
I met Lynne of Bournemouth Bombshells at the Southbourne Vintage Festival and I was asked to produce a hand painted A-board for her business, a hairdressers specialising in vintage hairstyles at events across the country. I built it with exterior plywood and painted it with a gloss white. The girl painted on is an Alberto Vargas pin-up which Lynne also uses on her business cards and leaflets.

Hand painted A-board for Mr. Barbers
It was nice to be asked to make an a-board for the legendary Mr Barber on Southbourne Grove. I wanted to portray a vintage look to the sign that will catch peoples eyes and reflect his business. I cut the wood, built the A-board and lettered it using 1-shot lettering enamels. The lettering used was based on a style found in the 1929 book ‘Pen and Brush Lettering and Practical Alphabets’.

Painted A-boards for Beach Shop at Boscombe Pier
The beach shop at Boscombe pier required some painted shop signage, they wanted an a-board and 2 exterior advertisement signs for the front of the shop. I was given the luxury of artistic license with this job. Making a-boards is always a joy as there’s a bit of everything involved: carpentry, decorating, signwriting and having fun fitting it all together with hinges, screws and rope.
